    The Verve Capital ("VCII") Global Market Monitor is a console for international market information outside the U.S. and is the companion to the U.S. Market Monitor. Our original site, "Breakfast in Rio", (Brazil Capital Associates) covers the Brazilian stock market and economy, and has expanded coverage to Latin America.

    The Heat Map links above include "ETFs" (Exchange Traded Funds).The ETF Heat Map sorts over 200 ETFs by strength, "Green to Red", and includes most all global,region,country, sector and industry funds traded in the United States.The Heat Maps are updated daily.

    Within the Global Market Monitor,FT access is indispensable and can be obtained through a non-committal registration with the Financial Times. This site is rich in content, data on 11,500 companies accessible, and relies on searches. The FT Company Briefing is the source for company descriptions, with financials, in English. Closing prices in global markets can be searched at the FT World Share Service; closing prices for 3,000 shares traded in London are accessible through the FT's London Share Prices. This latter search can retrieve all London-traded shares within 39 FT industry classifications. Note that both Share Services provide a quick click to Top Gainers and Top Losers, which can be searched by country and/or sector. The result provides a click to some basic data for each company.

    The CBS MarketWatch is another friend for global markets. The number of international markets and stock indices quotable is impressive and there is often a 180-day stock chart available. Try it, through the "Search a ticker symbol, globally", or submit your own symbol:

  • The Reuters news link at left, via the NASDAQ site, provides the broadest access to Reuters news. The NASDAQ site is constantly improving. We especially like the direct access to IPO filings. Here's a link to the Site Map. And don't forget to check the short interest/average daily volume for any NASDAQ security.
  • The Financial Times updates international business news during the day at FT Update. The FT's most flexible "departure" point is from the FT Today. Our favorite Lex Column can also be accessed directly.
  • Canadian Corporate Newsnet provides an hourly-updated newswire for the Canadian financial market. The news archives can be searched by stock symbol by clicking here 
  • International Business (via biz.yahoo.com) is a scrolling newswire of international business news fed by Reuters. News stories for 42 Yahoo! industry classifications can be accessed by clicking here.

  • CNN Financial Network has the broadest list of international market closes (49) we've seen. The on-line U.S. market recap is especially interesting for volume, high/low alerts.
  • ESPIN Stock Charts (Spain) provides an opportunity to view global stock market index charts in block. Eleven international markets are covered, with good depth in the U.S. (click here), including the Russell 2000.
  • J.P. Morgan tracks performance of inter-related assets - OECD currencies, government bonds, emerging market bonds, emerging local markets and commodities - daily, MTD, YTD and LTM. The cross-comparisons provide interesting perspective.
  • Thirty-one emerging markets are tracked within the IFC's EMDB (Emerging Markets Data Base). Closing index levels are posted daily with YTD performance. A weekly news commentary is issued by region: Asia, Latin America and EMEA (Europe, Mideast and Africa).

  • DAX index and closing prices for its components are furnished by The Deutsche Bank. Some of the listings provide a link to a Deutsche Bank company description (in German), and a one-year stock chart. Here, a chart of the DAX 30, via ESPIN.
  • London: ESPIN charts the FTSE 100, with moving averages and RSI, along with other major markets, cited on this page.
  • The Bolsa de Madrid updates stock prices of the IBEX-35 stocks, with a 15-minute delay, through the link at left. The same is possible for the Exchange's IBEX 35, IGBM, and Sector Index levels here. The directory for all listed companies includes a link to a five-year record of income statements and cash flows for companies composing the IBEX-35 and IGBM indices. Espin charts the IBEX 35.
  • The Paris Bourse is a one-stop-stop. The link at left opens to a page from which Paris listings are found. The search can be alphabetical, by index (CAC-40, and broader), and by sector. The links to the listing, therein, result in a closing price, company description and annual/interim financials. Here, an ESPIN stock chart of the CAC 40.
  • The Swiss Stock Exchange issues Opening and Closing bulletins, in French. Closing prices (the link at left) contain many dually-listed securities.   • The Helsinki Stock Exchange provides closing prices grouped by sector. Each traded share has a link to a company description, which includes company disclosures. The last 10 company disclosures (plus a search option) can be accessed by clicking here. One can also view a weekly chart of the HEX Index.
  • Address, phone and fax for listings on the Oslo Borsa. Each listing provides a link to a trading summary for the previous month. Closing prices are retrieved by sector: banks, insurance, industry, shipping and small-medium cap. A click on the ticker symbol (hidden at right) leads to an 18-month chart. Hugin Online has a number of listed company descriptions provided by participating companies.
  • All the Stockholm Stock Exchange index closes with YTD performance are accessed at left. Block closes (symbols only) are available for the following: A-List, A-List (oth.), OTC and the O-List. MarketWatch has a quotable quote look-up for Sweden.

Central Europe

  • The closing prices for the Budapest Stock Exchange provide a link to a one-year price/volume chart. The exchange also offers recent closes and a chart of the BUX and CESI (Central European Stock Index) indices. Quotes on the BUX Index are available in real-time.
  • The link at left to the Prague Stock Exchange results in a close and chart for the PX-50. Once there, checking the "KOPOS" box and clicking "Vybrat" (Search) will yield closing prices. If the "PX 50, ..." box is checked, clicking Vybrat recovers the close for all indices, including sectoral. At the bottom of this page, a click on Vybrat brings up charts for all indices. In each case, any date from the past twelve months can be chosen for search.
  • The Warsaw Stock Exchange furnishes continuous prices for the most liquid stocks. Closes for less liquid stocks can be obtained by clicking here. Most interesting are the charts for the WIG, WIG-20 and WIRR indexes and the charts in block for specific securities. Here, the MarketWatch quote look-up.
  • The link at left for the Zagreb Stock Exchange, Croatia, leads to a choice of closing prices for the last three trading days. A click on the company name offers a brief description and company contact information.

  • Real-time quotes for IBOVESPA and selected Brazilian securities, including ADR's, are contained on the Brazil Capital Associates site (via CBS MarketWatch). Brazilian journals and organizations have embraced the internet enthusiastically, enabling brazcap to be a one-stop-stop for these resources.
  • Address, phone, fax and company contact for Caracas Stock Exchange listings are accessed through the link at left. Here, a MarketWatch symbol look-up of the Venezuelan market.
  • The Bolsa de Lima updates the Peruvian Stock Indices (IGBVL and ISBVL) along with the exchange's Sector Indices at 3-minute intervals during the trading session. The current quote on the Peruvian sol is also furnished. To: MarketWatch quote look-up for Peru.
  • The Santiago Bolsa provides closing prices, YTD performance and LTM P.E.R.'s (through the link at left). One-month charts of the IGPA, the IGRA and Inter-10 (key ADR) indices are provided. Chilean listings are also sorted by sector. The conversion ratios for ADR's can be found here and MarketWatch provides block quotes for all Chilean ADR's.
